Artist's Description

Here we have a later (1929) Ford hackney carriage, one of the earliest examples of a 4-door, enclosed (the isinglass curtains of musical fame could be installed and rolled down over the window openings in case of inclement weather) commercial vehicle.

Used primarily to ferry folks, fortnighters and freight to and from the train station.

Somewhere along the line they became known by the more elegant moniker, "Station Wagon" and their popularity as the first family utility vehicle grew rapidly.

Subject to damage from high winds and termites in the original configurations, station wagons became more sedan-esq, and then morphed into Sports Utility Vehicles - the inevitable joining in design and purpose of the depot hacks and the hunting breaks of the early 20th century.

My sole criterion for selection of an image for inclusion here is that I be pleased to share it with others. I make no effort to make any art product appealing to everyone, so, if you think something is not your cup of tea, just meander along through my other offerings. If you find...
