Messerschmidt Bf 109 was a German World War II fighter aircraft that was the backbone of the Luftwaffe's fighter force. It first saw operational service in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War and was still in service at the end of World War II in 1945.
Many versions were built, with several different engines, by Messerschmidt and by Hispano Suiza, including "high-spinner" (inverted V-12) and "low-spinner" (upright V-12).
